The idea was born from a heartfelt wish. The father of the bride had once been married mid-air himself and dreamed of giving his daughter the same unforgettable experience. When he approached Chimoo, she had just 24 hours to make it happen. While most would have dismissed the idea as unfeasible, Chimoo saw it as a thrilling challenge—and Dubai, a city known for making the impossible possible, provided the perfect backdrop.
Chimoo Bhattacharya Acharya is no stranger to staging grand experiences. Coming from a legendary Bollywood lineage—granddaughter of filmmaker Bimal Roy and daughter of director Basu Bhattacharya—she grew up around creativity and production. But she’s carved her own legacy in Dubai as a visionary planner, leading Encore The Design Studio and L’Atitude Events, known for curating luxury weddings, immersive concerts, and glamorous private events.
Planning a wedding is never easy—but planning one in the sky? That’s a whole different level. Chimoo and her team had to get quick approvals from aviation authorities, modify the interior of a private jet, and follow religious protocols to safely carry the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhism.
With the help of aviation partner Jetex, the aircraft was transformed into a sacred, elegant venue in the sky. Over 80 seats were removed to create an aisle, floral arrangements were carefully secured, and a team of priests, musicians, and guests boarded for what would become one of the most memorable weddings ever held.
“It all came together like a dream,” Chimoo recalled. “Everything was done in under 24 hours. It was magical and surreal.”
For Chimoo, Dubai played a crucial role in the success of the sky wedding. “This city gives you permission to dream,” she said. “It doesn’t matter who your parents are. You can be anyone and do anything here.”
While her family name is well-known in Indian cinema, she emphasizes that it was Dubai’s limitless potential that truly allowed her to take her work to new heights—literally.
