Fog, Dust, and 50°C Heat: UAE Braces for Intense Weather Shift

Fog, Dust, and 50°C Heat: UAE Braces for Intense Weather Shift

The UAE is experiencing shifting weather patterns with dense fog in the morning, dusty winds in the afternoon, and temperatures soaring up to 50°C in some regions. Authorities advise caution on the roads and staying updated on official alerts as summer intensifies.

The UAE woke up to thick fog in several areas today, prompting a yellow alert from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). Drivers faced reduced visibility during the early hours, with authorities urging motorists to be extra cautious.

Abu Dhabi Police issued a reminder to drivers on X, formerly Twitter, to strictly follow the speed limits shown on electronic signs. These adjustments help maintain road safety during low-visibility conditions caused by fog.

Dusty Afternoon Ahead
While the morning started with fog, weather conditions are expected to shift later in the day. Light to moderate southeasterly winds will turn northwesterly, with speeds reaching up to 40km/hr. This wind movement is likely to stir up dust, especially in open areas.

Dusty skies can cause visibility to drop again in the afternoon, particularly in desert zones. Residents planning to travel later in the day are advised to monitor conditions and drive carefully.

Temperatures Soar to 50°C
After experiencing scattered rain and hailstorms earlier this month, the heat has returned — and it’s intense. Temperatures are forecast to hit extreme highs, particularly in the western interior.

Mezaira in Abu Dhabi is expected to see temperatures soar to 50°C, making it one of the hottest places in the country today. On the other hand, mountainous areas like Jebel Jais will see milder lows of around 28°C.

Officials recommend residents stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid physical activities outdoors to prevent heat exhaustion or dehydration.

Beach Weather Remains Calm
Despite the dusty inland forecast, sea conditions remain favorable. The Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea are expected to stay slight throughout the day, with no significant waves or disturbances.

This means beachgoers can safely enjoy the coast, although they should still be mindful of occasional gusty winds and heat levels.

Public Safety First
As the UAE’s summer weather becomes more dynamic, the NCM and other official bodies continue to issue timely updates. Residents are encouraged to:

  • Follow real-time weather alerts

  • Obey traffic and safety signs

  • Avoid unnecessary travel in poor visibility

  • Stay hydrated and wear loose, light-colored clothing

  • Plan outdoor activities early in the morning or late in the evening

Final Thoughts
Today’s forecast is a reminder of how quickly weather can change during the UAE summer. With foggy mornings, dusty afternoons, and soaring temperatures, it's important for everyone — drivers, workers, and families — to stay alert and take precautions.

While the sea stays calm and safe for beach visits, other parts of the country will need to deal with harsh weather swings. Keep checking updates from official channels and make your plans accordingly.
