From Waiting Tables in Dubai to Walking the Stage: Rechel Hoco’s Inspiring Journey to Miss Universe Philippines 2025

From waitress to viral star, Rechel Hoco’s journey from working in Dubai to becoming a Miss Universe Philippines 2025 contender is inspiring millions. Her TikTok fame, self-made pageant success, and unwavering spirit prove that dreams can rise from anywhere—even a restaurant floor in Jumeirah.

In a story that proves dreams can take flight from the most unexpected places, 24-year-old Rechel Hoco, a former waitress in Dubai, has captured hearts across the Philippines and the UAE as she rose to become a viral TikTok star and a proud contender for Miss Universe Philippines 2025.

Rechel’s story began in Oriental Mindoro, a province in the Philippines where she grew up with big dreams and a humble background. In 2022, after the heartbreaking loss of her father during the COVID-19 pandemic, she made the bold decision to move to Dubai in search of better opportunities. Like many overseas Filipino workers, Rechel took up work in the hospitality sector, becoming a hostess at a restaurant in Jumeirah.

Her daily life was anything but glamorous—long hours under the sweltering Dubai sun, endless shifts, and a longing for home. But her natural charm and positive spirit never dimmed. One day, Rechel and her brother decided to post a light-hearted video on TikTok, featuring her playing with a trending Filipino toy, Lato-Lato. They uploaded the video for fun—never expecting it to go viral overnight.

That one clip changed everything. With her follower count skyrocketing to over a million fans, Rechel quickly became a social media sensation. Audiences loved her for her authenticity, infectious smile, and inspiring underdog story. Suddenly, she found herself in the spotlight, not just as a content creator—but as a role model.

Empowered by her growing fan base and the financial stability that came with it, Rechel returned to the Philippines in 2025 to compete in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant, representing her beloved Oriental Mindoro. Without the support of stylists, glam teams, or major sponsors, Rechel did everything on her own—from makeup to wardrobe—embodying the modern, self-made woman.

While she didn’t make it to the top 12 finalists, her presence lit up the stage. “People were crying when I didn’t make it through,” she shared in an emotional interview. “That alone showed me how deeply they believed in me—and that’s more than any crown.”

Rechel attributes much of her confidence and transformation to her pageant experiences, which she’s been participating in since the age of 13. Over the years, she has competed in more than 170 beauty pageants, gaining not just poise and stage presence, but also the ability to speak up and advocate for herself and others.

Dubai, she says, played a crucial role in shaping her journey. “It was here that I found my strength. I was alone, working hard, but the support I received—especially from the Filipino community—was overwhelming,” she said. “Dubai taught me to be grateful, to stay grounded, and to never give up.”

Now, Rechel is setting her sights on new horizons. With acting as her next big dream, she’s hoping to enter the world of television and film—taking her charisma and life story to even greater heights. "I want to tell stories. Whether through beauty or performance, I want to move people," she says.

Her message to others chasing their dreams? “Don’t let your situation define your limits. You can come from anywhere, even the heat of a Dubai kitchen, and still make it to a national stage. All you need is courage, patience, and a little faith in yourself.”

Rechel Hoco is not just a contestant or an influencer. She is the face of modern ambition—proof that grit, heart, and resilience can turn even the most unlikely journey into a global inspiration.
