Actor Manuel Masalva, best known for his role as Ramón Arellano Félix in the Netflix hit series Narcos: Mexico, has opened up about a life-threatening medical battle that left him hospitalized in Dubai for over three months.
The 33-year-old Mexican star contracted a severe bacterial infection while traveling, which led to emergency hospitalization shortly after arriving in Dubai. What began as sharp abdominal pain turned into a critical condition that rapidly worsened, spreading to his lungs and forcing doctors to place him in a medically induced coma on March 27.
Doctors in Dubai performed multiple surgeries to control the infection. Masalva remained unconscious and heavily monitored in the ICU for weeks. He spent a total of 105 days in the hospital — including 81 days without stepping outside or breathing fresh air.
On July 7, Masalva broke his silence by posting an emotional update on Instagram. In his heartfelt message, he wrote:
“I am healing. I want to profoundly thank you all for the support you have given me and continue to give me. I feel blessed, strong, reborn and well-accompanied. God has given me a new chance at life.”
He also acknowledged that the road to full recovery is just beginning. Despite the physical and emotional toll, Masalva shared a sense of renewed spirit and deep gratitude, especially for the Dubai medical team that cared for him throughout the ordeal. He praised the hospital environment for being not only highly professional but also filled with "love and spirituality."
