The move comes amid heightened tension in the Middle East following a series of military strikes and missile attacks. Countries across the region including Qatar have had to temporarily close their airspace as a safety precaution. These closures led to widespread flight cancellations and travel disruptions, leaving some visitors and expatriates unable to leave the country before their visas expired.
To ease these challenges and prevent visa holders from facing legal issues due to overstaying, the Qatari authorities decided to extend visas for another month giving people extra time without the need for urgent travel arrangements or additional official procedures.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the extension applies to all categories of entry visasincluding tourist visas, family visit visas, work visas nearing expiry, and others. Visas that have already expired or are set to expire soon are eligible for this automatic extension.
Importantly, the extension is processed automaticallythrough official digital systems. This means that visa holders do not need to visit immigration offices, apply again, or pay additional fees. However, there is one condition for people who already have visa violations. Those whose visas expired before February 28 and who have accrued fines or overstay violationsmust first pay the required reconciliation fines. Once those fines are settled, the automatic extension and fee waiver will apply, effective from February 28.
This approach allows Qatar to maintain immigration law compliance while also helping visitors and residents whose plans were disrupted by the conflict and airspace closures.
