Skyports Infrastructure, a company that builds takeoff and landing hubs for flying taxis (called vertiports), has partnered with the Ajman Transport Authority. Together, they will work on setting up smart air transport systems in Ajman. This move is part of a bigger plan to bring electric air taxis (eVTOLs) to the emirate in the near future.
The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to begin the project. They plan to work on finding the right places to build vertiports, carrying out studies to see if the idea is practical, and making sure everything is ready on the technical and operations side.
Ajman, the smallest of the seven emirates in the UAE, sees advanced air transport as a key part of its “Ajman Vision 2030” smart city plan. Most of the emirate’s population lives in the city of Ajman itself, where the new air taxi services could make travel faster and easier.
Skyports is already building vertiports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In January, its first vertiport in the UAE—located near Dubai International Airport—got official technical design approval from the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority. Skyports is also working with Joby Aviation, a U.S.-based electric aircraft maker, to get Dubai’s flying taxi service ready. Flights may begin before the end of 2025. Skyports also recently shared its new vertiport design for Abu Dhabi.
Another flying taxi maker, Archer Aviation, is also preparing for launch in Abu Dhabi. It is working with Abu Dhabi Aviation and local builders to set up infrastructure. Both Joby and Archer have started flying test aircraft in the UAE.
Last month, Skyports completed its first vertiport in Oxfordshire, England, where Vertical Aerospace plans to test flights of its VX4 electric air taxi.
