UAE Issues Strict Advisory Against Sharing Unverified News, Warns of Legal Action

The UAE National Media Authority has issued a strong advisory urging residents and social media users to circulate only verified information from official sources, particularly in light of ongoing regional developments. The authority stressed that full compliance with media laws and government instructions is essential to maintain public order, safeguard national interests, and protect community well-being. 

In a statement released recently, the authority highlighted the growing importance of media awareness in today’s fast-paced digital landscape. Officials noted that the rapid spread of misinformation and rumors through social media platforms can create unnecessary panic, confusion, and harm to individuals and institutions. 

Key Points Highlighted by the Authority: 

• Avoid Sharing Unofficial Content: 
  Residents are strictly advised not to film, record, post, repost, or circulate any visual or audio material, information, media content, or rumors originating from unofficial sources. This includes forwarding messages on social media platforms without verifying their authenticity. 
   
• Rely Only on Official Sources: 
  Social media and digital platforms should be used exclusively to share information released by recognised UAE authorities and official institutions. The authority emphasised the importance of checking the credibility of sources before publishing or sharing any content. 
   
• No Tolerance for Harmful or Inciteful Content: 
  Users must avoid posting material that could incite unrest, spread abuse, invade privacy, or damage the public interest. Content that includes false claims, inflammatory statements, or misleading narratives will be subject to scrutiny under applicable laws. 
   
• Legal Action for Violations: 
  The authority made it clear that legal action will be taken against individuals found violating these directives. Offenders may face penalties under UAE law, reflecting the country’s zero-tolerance approach toward misinformation and irresponsible media conduct. 
   
• Reporting Security Concerns: 
  Members of the public are encouraged to report any security-related concerns or suspicious information directly to the State Security Department through the official hotline. Authorities reaffirmed that cooperation from the community plays a crucial role in maintaining national stability. 

The advisory comes at a time when digital communication tools enable information to spread within seconds, often without proper verification. Officials reiterated that responsible media consumption and distribution are collective responsibilities shared by all members of society.
