Previously, passport renewal and Emirates ID renewal were handled as separate processes, each with its own paperwork, forms, and submission requirements. Under the new “smart journey,” citizens can now renew both documents in a single step. Notably, the system allows renewal even if one document (for example the ID card) still has validity remaining, eliminating the old requirement that both documents expire around the same time.
