UAE Schools Announce Month-Long Winter Holiday Starting December 8

Dubai, UAE: Students in schools across the UAE will start their winter break on December 8, 2025, stretching nearly a month until January 4, 2026, under the Ministry of Education’s approved academic calendar for the 2025-2026 school year. 

The extended break marks a change from more typical mid-December schedules, offering families significantly more time to rest, travel, or spend quality time together during the holiday season. 

Exam Period Overlaps with Holiday

Notably, the first week of the student winter holiday coincides with make-up examinations. From December 8 to December 12, schools will conduct these exams for first-term assessments, allowing students to wrap up academic obligations even as the break begins. 

For teaching and administrative staff, the holiday schedule begins a bit later — their break starts on December 15, 2025, running until the start of the second semester. During the week of December 8–12, in addition to make-up exams, staff will attend a dedicated “specialised professional training” session, a scheduled part of the Ministry’s calendar. 

Return to School & Semester Restart

Classes for the second semester are set to resume on January 5, 2026, per the approved education calendar.  Meanwhile, first-semester results are expected to be processed and published between January 7 and 9, according to Ministry plans. 

Overall, the 2025–2026 academic year has been structured to include 178 instructional days, balancing an extended winter break while maintaining a full curriculum across all schools. 

Why the Longer Break?

The shift to a four-week winter holiday reflects a broader effort by the Ministry of Education to streamline the academic year and offer students and families more breathing space during the year’s end.  According to the national calendar, schools are aligning their schedules more closely with community and cultural activities, making the extended break a tool for social balance as well.
