Ericsson and e& UAE Sign Three-Year Deal to Expand 5G Network and Launch 5G Advanced in UAE

Ericsson and e& UAE Sign Three-Year Deal to Expand 5G Network and Launch 5G Advanced in UAE

Ericsson and e& UAE have signed a three-year agreement to expand 5G coverage and launch 5G Advanced in the UAE. The deal includes the first RedCap commercial rollout in the Middle East and Africa, improved network efficiency, and advanced AI-driven automation, supporting UAE’s Green Agenda and Net Zero goals.

Dubai, UAE — Telecommunications giant e& UAE has signed a three-year agreement with Ericsson to upgrade and expand its 5G Radio Access Network (RAN). The deal includes introducing Ericsson’s latest radio technologies and marks the beginning of a major step forward in the UAE’s 5G journey—bringing 5G Advanced features and more reliable, high-performance connectivity to consumers and businesses across the country.

What’s in the Deal?

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will supply its state-of-the-art Ericsson Radio System portfolio to:

  • Increase network capacity
  • Expand 5G coverage
  • Prepare the network for 5G Advanced technologies

In addition to expansion, parts of e& UAE’s existing 5G radio network will be modernized to boost energy efficiency. This upgrade supports both e& UAE’s Net Zero strategy and the broader UAE Green Agenda 2030.

Moving Toward 5G Advanced and Smarter Networks

This partnership will also prepare e& UAE for:

  • Advanced RAN Slicing – enabling customized network experiences for different users
  • AI-driven RAN automation – allowing smarter, self-optimizing networks

These improvements will help e& UAE offer better 5G services, while also unlocking new use cases for industries and consumers, including critical communications, smart manufacturing, and enhanced mobile experiences.

First RedCap Commercial Agreement in Middle East and Africa

This deal is also notable for being the first commercial RedCap (Reduced Capability) 5G agreement in the Middle East and Africa. RedCap is a special 5G feature aimed at powering simpler, lower-cost IoT devices with better efficiency.

Alongside RedCap, Critical IoT capabilities will also be introduced—making it possible to support essential use cases such as remote monitoring, smart cities, healthcare devices, and autonomous systems with ultra-reliable low-latency communication.

These new features build on the trial implementations both companies carried out last year.

Strong Commitment from Both Sides

Marwan Bin Shakar, Acting Chief Technology and Information Officer at e& UAE, highlighted the importance of this agreement:

“Our agreement with Ericsson reflects a shared vision for digital transformation and reinforces our commitment to maintaining a cutting-edge 5G network that delivers premium services to both consumers and enterprises. By leveraging Ericsson’s latest technology, we are ensuring our network remains future-ready, supports innovative 5G Advanced services, and aligns with our Net Zero pledge.”

Petra Schirren, President of Ericsson Gulf and part of Ericsson’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa team, added:

“This agreement will support e& UAE in expanding and modernizing its radio access network. With increased capacity, improved energy efficiency, and Ericsson 5G Advanced features, we are helping them deliver high-performance connectivity and meet customer needs.”

A Trusted Partnership for the Future

Ericsson and e& UAE have worked together for many years, and this new deal further strengthens that relationship. By combining Ericsson’s cutting-edge telecom solutions with e& UAE’s large-scale network, the two companies are taking bold steps to advance digital infrastructure and bring the next generation of 5G innovation to the UAE
